The Waveland community is abuzz with excitement as the groundbreaking ceremony for the highly anticipated $16 million dual-brand Marriott hotel took place on Tuesday, July 9th, near the intersection of Highway 90 and Old Spanish Trail.
This unique hotel concept will feature both Fairfield and TownePlace Suites, offering 110 rooms, 55 rooms dedicated to Fairfield, and 55 rooms to TownePlace Suites.
The groundbreaking ceremony was held by the hotel’s developer, Waveland Hospitality LLC, in collaboration with the City of Waveland, Hancock County Port & Harbor Commission, and Hancock County Board of Supervisors.
Nikhil Amera of Waveland Hospitality LLC highlighted the substantial $16 million investment during the groundbreaking, emphasizing its significant economic impact on the area.
The groundbreaking event marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter for the City of Waveland as local officials, stakeholders, and community members gathered to witness the start of construction, representing the city’s first new hotel investment in over two decades.
Waveland Mayor Jay Trapani expressed his excitement for the new hotel during the groundbreaking, stating, “This truly is an exciting time for Waveland and Hancock County. After over a year of working extremely hard, the vision of Waveland Hospitality LLC is coming to fruition today with the Marriott Hotel Groundbreaking ceremony. This new Marriott Hotel will play a pivotal role in the revitalization of the western end of Hwy 90 in Waveland, providing an economic boost to this area and creating new job opportunities for our citizens. The Marriott Hotel is expected to serve as a cornerstone for future developments along Hwy 90. Congratulations to all involved in this wonderful project!”
Due to the extensive planning by the hotel developer, the project is ready to begin construction immediately. Waveland Hospitality LLC anticipates the construction of the new hotel to take 18 – 24 months.

Through this partnership, Retail Strategies is focused on identifying and recruiting new businesses to the Highway 90 corridor in the Cities of Bay St. Louis and Waveland and the commercial district in the City of Diamondhead.
