Third AWS data center campus in Shreveport will add $6 billion in planned investment and generate more than 700 new job opportunities
SHREVEPORT, La. (August 20, 2026) — Amazon plans to invest an additional $6 billion in its Northwest Louisiana data center development, increasing the company’s total planned regional investment to $18 billion.
The expansion includes a third state-of-the-art data center campus at Resilient Technology Park in Shreveport. The project will extend Amazon’s development across Caddo and Bossier parishes while further strengthening Louisiana’s position in cloud computing, artificial intelligence and advanced digital infrastructure.
Amazon’s Northwest Louisiana Investment at a Glance
- $18 billion in total planned investment across three data center campuses
- $6 billion committed to the third campus in Shreveport
- 210 additional direct jobs
- 499 additional indirect jobs
- 709 new job opportunities associated with the expansion
- Up to 750 direct jobs supported across all three campuses
- Approximately 1,784 indirect jobs projected across the full development
- Up to 2,250 construction jobs supported
- Nearly $500,000 awarded through Amazon’s local community fund
“Amazon’s decision to increase its investment in Louisiana so quickly sends a clear message about what they have experienced here,” Gov. Jeff Landry said. “When one of the world’s largest companies chooses to deepen its commitment this early, it demonstrates confidence in our workers, our business environment and our ability to execute. Amazon came to our state with an ambitious vision, and Louisiana has shown we can deliver at the scale and speed that vision demands.”
Third Amazon Data Center Campus Planned in Shreveport
Amazon’s expanded investment is expected to create 210 direct jobs. Louisiana Economic Development estimates the project will also generate 499 indirect positions, resulting in 709 additional job opportunities throughout Northwest Louisiana.
Across all three planned campuses, Amazon is expected to support as many as 750 direct jobs. LED estimates the full development will produce another 1,784 indirect jobs in the region.
The announcement comes less than six months after Amazon disclosed its initial $12 billion Northwest Louisiana investment. The third campus will expand the company’s data center presence into Shreveport and increase the overall project’s reach across Caddo and Bossier parishes.
“When we announced our investment in Northwest Louisiana earlier this year, we made a promise: Amazon pays its own way, and the communities where we operate will be better off because we’re there,” Amazon Director of Data Center Supply Solutions Keith Klein said. “Increasing our planned investment to $18 billion means more good jobs for the region and more opportunities for local businesses. We’re continuing to protect ratepayers and strengthening this community for the long term.”
Project Could Support 2,250 Construction Jobs
Amazon will continue working with STACK Infrastructure, which will own the campuses and lead construction and development of the data center facilities.
STACK anticipates the full project will support up to 2,250 construction jobs, creating opportunities for local contractors, skilled tradespeople, suppliers and service providers.
“As STACK continues to expand our presence in Northwest Louisiana, our commitment goes beyond what we build,” STACK Americas Chief Executive Officer Matt VanderZanden said. “It reflects the long-term relationships we establish with the communities where we operate.”
VanderZanden said the company will continue working with Amazon and state and local leaders to create opportunities for area businesses and workers, invest in supporting infrastructure and deliver lasting economic value.
Workforce Programs Will Prepare Residents for Data Center Careers
Amazon plans to introduce workforce development programs in partnership with educational institutions, technical colleges and community organizations throughout Northwest Louisiana.
The programs will help prepare students, job seekers and people changing careers for skilled positions within the growing data center industry.
Employment opportunities associated with the development are expected to include:
- Electricians
- HVAC technicians
- Project engineers
- Network specialists
- Operations managers
- Security specialists
- Data center technicians
- Construction and skilled-trade professionals
Louisiana companies will also be able to pursue contract and vendor opportunities connected to the project. Businesses can register and verify their profiles through Source Louisiana to increase their visibility for opportunities associated with major economic development projects.
“Amazon’s expanded investment is creating new opportunities for Louisiana people and businesses to grow alongside it,” LED Secretary Susan B. Bourgeois said. “The real measure of a project like this is how broadly its benefits are felt, and we are working to ensure they reach workers, businesses and communities across Louisiana.”
Amazon Expands Its Economic Presence in Louisiana
The third data center campus builds upon Amazon’s growing Louisiana presence. Since 2010, the company has invested more than $6 billion across the state while employing thousands of residents and supporting additional indirect jobs.
Amazon’s Louisiana operations include fulfillment and sortation centers, delivery stations, Whole Foods Market locations and solar energy investments that contribute power to the state’s electric grid.
The $18 billion Northwest Louisiana project also adds to the state’s recent economic development activity. Since Landry took office, Louisiana has announced nearly $160 billion in capital investment and tens of thousands of potential job opportunities.
Amazon Plans $400 Million Water Infrastructure Investment
Amazon is designing its Northwest Louisiana data center campuses to use energy and water efficiently while fully funding the infrastructure required to support its operations.
The facilities will use air cooling during most of the year. Water will be required for cooling only when temperatures rise above approximately 85 degrees Fahrenheit, which Amazon expects to occur less than 13% of the year in the region.
The company plans to invest as much as $400 million in public water infrastructure supporting the three campuses. Amazon has coordinated with local utilities to ensure sufficient capacity for its facilities and existing customers.
Amazon will fund all water and wastewater improvements required for the projects. The company also plans to work with regional partners on programs intended to return more water to local watersheds than its operations consume.
Energy Infrastructure Costs Will Not Be Passed to Ratepayers
Amazon is collaborating with Southwestern Electric Power Company to fund the new energy infrastructure and electric-grid upgrades necessary to serve its data centers.
According to the company, these infrastructure costs will not be passed along to existing ratepayers. The upgrades are also expected to improve grid reliability throughout Northwest Louisiana.
Amazon continues to improve data center efficiency through advances in power systems, cooling technology and hardware design. The company says its latest systems provide 12% more computing power, while newer cooling technology has reduced mechanical energy consumption by as much as 46%.
“Our customers come first, and our commitment remains the same: growth should pay for growth,” SWEPCO President and COO Brett Mattison said. “We’re ready to serve and ready to deliver the reliable energy our communities need to support new investment while protecting existing customers from the costs of that growth.”
The project aligns with the Louisiana Ratepayer and Community Protection Initiative established by Landry in June. The statewide framework is designed to accommodate large-scale data center developments while protecting existing utility customers and addressing infrastructure, workforce and natural resource demands.
Amazon Awards Nearly $500,000 to Northwest Louisiana Organizations
Amazon has awarded nearly $500,000 through the Amazon Northwest Louisiana Community Fund since announcing its initial data center investment.
The funding has supported 46 local nonprofits, schools and community members. Grants have addressed locally identified priorities, including food assistance, transitional housing, youth robotics and educational programming.
“Amazon and STACK Infrastructure’s continued investment in Northwest Louisiana is a tremendous vote of confidence in Shreveport and in the people who call this region home,” Shreveport Mayor Tom Arceneaux said. “This means more jobs, more opportunity for local businesses and another major step forward for our economy. We are proud to welcome this next phase of investment and excited about what it means for Shreveport’s future.”
North Louisiana Economic Partnership President and CEO Justyn Dixon said the project’s economic effects will extend beyond the three data center campuses.
“An $18 billion commitment puts into perspective the scale of what is taking shape in Northwest Louisiana,” Dixon said. “The jobs, construction activity and opportunities for local companies will reach well beyond these three campuses.”
Amazon is participating in Louisiana’s Data Center Sales and Use Tax Exemption for the full project. Job seekers can register through Amazon to receive notifications about employment opportunities, hiring events and project updates.
