Launching $5.6 Million Infrastructure Project to Unlock 550 Acres for Business Growth; Landmark development positions Big Spring as a premier industrial destination along the I-27 and Ports-to-Plains Trade Corridor
BIG SPRING, Texas (July 9, 2026) — The City of Big Spring officially broke ground on the Crossroads Business Park, marking the beginning of a $5.6 million infrastructure project that will open more than 550 acres for commercial and industrial development. The project represents one of the region’s most significant economic development investments and establishes the first business park directly connected to the future Interstate 27 corridor and the Ports-to-Plains Trade Corridor.
The groundbreaking ceremony celebrated years of planning and collaboration between public and private partners committed to expanding economic opportunity in Howard County and strengthening West Texas’ position as a strategic transportation and logistics hub.
More Than $22 Million Already Invested in Regional Growth
To date, more than $22 million has been invested by the City of Big Spring, Big Spring Economic Development Corporation, and the McMahon-Wrinkle Airport and Industrial Park to prepare the area for long-term business and industrial expansion.
The initial phase includes approximately 550 acres of development-ready property, while the project’s master plan envisions an additional 2,000 acres of future expansion to fully capitalize on the economic opportunities created by the Ports-to-Plains corridor.
Strategic Location Along Future Interstate 27
Crossroads Business Park is the first industrial park in the region designed specifically to leverage the development of Interstate 27 and the Ports-to-Plains Trade Corridor, creating a powerful new logistics and manufacturing location in West Texas.
The development is expected to become a major economic engine for Howard County while continuing Big Spring’s long-term strategy to diversify and strengthen its economy following the closure of Webb Air Force Base in 1977.
Public-Private Partnership Drives Development
The project is the result of a collaborative effort involving multiple public agencies and private stakeholders working together to fund, plan and construct the business park.
Key partners include:
- City of Big Spring
- Big Spring Economic Development Corporation
- McMahon-Wrinkle Airport and Industrial Park
- Cross Ell Ranch Corporation and the Frazier family
- Permian Basin Regional Planning Commission
- Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT)
Officials credited the partnership among these organizations as instrumental in bringing the transformational project to fruition.
Positioned at the Center of West Texas Commerce
Located between Lubbock, Midland, San Angelo and Abilene, Big Spring is strategically positioned at the center of what local leaders call the “West Texas Diamond in Transportation.”
Crossroads Business Park will offer companies:
- More than 550 acres of development-ready industrial land
- Direct access to the future I-27 corridor
- Connectivity to the Ports-to-Plains Trade Corridor
- Rail and airport access through McMahon-Wrinkle Airport
- Expansion potential exceeding 2,500 total acres
- Proximity to major energy, agriculture, manufacturing and logistics markets
The surrounding region serves as a critical center for food production, energy development and advanced manufacturing, making Big Spring an attractive destination for companies seeking efficient multimodal transportation access and room for future growth.
