CHENEY, Wash. — Comcast is expanding high-speed fiber internet service to Cheney, bringing multi-gigabit, symmetrical connectivity to thousands of homes and businesses while reinforcing the city’s long-term economic competitiveness.
The project, developed in partnership with local officials, will connect nearly 3,000 residential and commercial locations throughout 2026. The investment expands advanced broadband access in Spokane County and enhances the infrastructure increasingly required for business growth and community development.
Reliable, high-capacity internet has become a critical asset for communities seeking to attract employers, retain talent and support innovation. In Cheney, the fiber expansion is expected to benefit industries ranging from advanced manufacturing and healthcare to professional services, education and remote work.
Driving Business Competitiveness
With the introduction of Comcast Business services, local employers will gain access to enterprise-level tools such as secure networking, cloud connectivity and scalable communications systems.
For small and mid-sized businesses, the new infrastructure can improve daily operations, expand digital market reach and support flexible workforce models. For larger employers and site selectors, it strengthens Cheney’s standing as a location prepared for future investment.
Expanding Regional Connectivity
The Cheney deployment follows additional Comcast broadband investments in Chattaroy, Four Lakes and Medical Lake, where more than 2,200 homes and businesses were recently connected.
Together, these projects help close digital access gaps across the region while improving workforce participation, educational opportunity and economic mobility in both urban and rural communities.
Community-Focused Investment
Comcast has also supported community initiatives in Spokane County through more than $200,000 in nonprofit contributions over the past three years.
Additional programs include 18 Lift Zones that provide free high-capacity Wi-Fi for students and families, along with the Internet Essentials program offering affordable broadband service and devices to eligible households.
Why It Matters
As the Spokane region continues to compete for new investment and talent, infrastructure remains central to long-term success. High-speed internet is now a core requirement for resilient communities and growing economies.
With this latest expansion, Cheney and the greater Spokane County area continue building a stronger, more connected future.
