Investing $40 Million and Creating 50 Jobs
Sumter County, S.C. — Georg Utz, Inc., a global manufacturer of reusable plastic packaging and containers, has selected Sumter County for its first operation in South Carolina. The company’s $40 million capital investment will create 50 new jobs and expand advanced manufacturing capacity in the region.
A wholly owned subsidiary of Switzerland-based Utz Group, Georg Utz, Inc. brings more than 75 years of international expertise in producing returnable plastic containers, pallets, component holders, and custom packaging systems for supply chains worldwide. The company currently operates a U.S. manufacturing facility in Indiana and is expanding to meet growing North American demand.
New 90,000-Square-Foot Manufacturing Facility Planned
Georg Utz, Inc. will construct a 90,000-square-foot manufacturing facility at the intersection of Race Track Road and U.S. Highway 521 in Sumter. The facility will specialize in rigid returnable packaging solutions used in industrial and logistics applications.
Operations are projected to begin in 2028.
The project is supported by a $750,000 Closing Fund grant from the South Carolina Coordinating Council for Economic Development. Funds will assist with:
- Site preparation
- Water and sewer infrastructure
- Rail improvements
