Italian cosmetics manufacturer to invest $11.6 million and create 25 new jobs in Gaffney
GAFFNEY, S.C. — Huwell US Inc., a global manufacturer of cosmetics and hair care products, has selected Cherokee County, South Carolina for its first U.S. operation. The company’s $11.6 million investment will create 25 new jobs and expand its footprint in the North American beauty and personal care market.
Headquartered in Italy, Huwell has more than 60 years of experience producing professional hair products. The company is a private-label manufacturer of lighteners and is recognized as a leading global supplier of bleaching powders. Huwell also distributes raw materials used in cosmetic product formulation.
New Upstate Manufacturing Hub
Huwell’s new 120,000-square-foot manufacturing facility will be located at 14 Commerce Drive in Gaffney, South Carolina. The plant will produce hair lighteners for a broad customer base ranging from major international brands to smaller independent cosmetic companies.
Once renovations are complete, the facility will provide Huwell with direct access to the U.S. market, allowing the company to shorten delivery times, respond more quickly to customer demand, and strengthen domestic partnerships. Operations are expected to come online in June 2026.
State and Local Support
The Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved job development credits tied to the project and awarded a $100,000 Set-Aside grant to Cherokee County to assist with building improvements.
Leadership Perspectives
Huwell President Gabriele Magni said South Carolina’s workforce and business climate made the region a natural fit for the company’s U.S. expansion, noting that the new facility will help Huwell serve customers more efficiently and build stronger relationships across the country.
Henry McMaster, Governor of South Carolina, said the investment highlights the state’s ability to attract international manufacturers through its business-friendly environment and skilled workforce.
Harry M. Lightsey III, Secretary of Commerce, emphasized that the project reinforces South Carolina’s reputation as a leader in advanced manufacturing and showcases the strength of its rural communities.
Lyman Dawkins III, Mayor of Gaffney, said the investment will strengthen the local economy while creating quality job opportunities for residents and supporting long-term community growth.
