Canadian companies Laserglow, Geotab, and Charbone to expand in Michigan, creating 50+ new jobs and strengthening U.S.–Canada partnership
LANSING, Mich. – Oct. 1, 2025 – Governor Gretchen Whitmer today announced more than $2.5 million in new Canadian investments in Michigan’s clean energy and high-tech sectors, creating over 50 good-paying jobs across Macomb, Oakland, and Metro Detroit communities.
Speaking at the Empire Club of Canada in Toronto, Governor Whitmer highlighted the enduring strength of the Michigan–Canada economic relationship, one of the largest cross-border partnerships in the world.
“Michigan is the best place to invest, even in uncertain global times,” said Governor Whitmer. “From clean energy to advanced manufacturing and mobility, our partnership with Canada continues to deliver good-paying jobs and strengthen both economies. Together, we’re building on momentum and creating a more innovative, resilient future.”
New Canadian Investments in Michigan
- Laserglow Technologies (Toronto, Ontario) – A leading OEM in projected signage and smart hazard awareness systems, Laserglow will open its first U.S. assembly and warehouse facility in Sterling Heights, investing $1.2 million and creating 16 new jobs. The project is supported by a $72,000 Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant.
- Geotab USA, Inc. – A global leader in connected transportation solutions, Geotab will establish a new engineering hub in Madison Heights, investing $1.56 million and creating 41 high-tech jobs. The Metro Detroit office will focus on innovation in connected vehicle technology as the company surpasses 5 million connected vehicle subscriptions worldwide.
- Charbone Hydrogen (Montreal, Quebec) – Charbone will launch its first U.S. electrolyzer facility in Michigan, producing clean hydrogen to support the state’s MI Healthy Climate Plan. The project will advance Michigan’s role as a national clean energy leader and attract further international investment in renewable energy.
Michigan–Canada Partnership
Michigan and Canada share one of the largest bilateral trade relationships in the world, with billions in goods and services crossing the border annually. Since 2019, Canadian companies have launched 42 projects in Michigan, generating $2.75 billion in investments and creating 7,800+ jobs.

Governor Whitmer’s announcement follows successful investment missions across Asia, Europe, and Australia, strengthening Michigan’s reputation as a top U.S. destination for international business investment and innovation.
