CHICAGO (Feb. 24, 2026) — Illinois Governor JB Pritzker announced that DMG MORI Federal Services, Inc., a global leader in high-precision machine tools and advanced manufacturing technologies, will invest more than $40.5 million to expand its Illinois operations with a new advanced manufacturing and research and development facility in the Chicagoland area. The project is expected to create 74 new full-time jobs while strengthening the state’s position as a national hub for advanced manufacturing innovation.
The expansion, supported by the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) and the Illinois Economic Development Corporation (Illinois EDC), combines business growth with a major workforce development partnership involving City Colleges of Chicago.
“Here in Illinois, we’ve built a dynamic business environment that attracts sustained investment and innovation,” said Gov. Pritzker. “DMG MORI’s expansion demonstrates the strength of our advanced manufacturing sector while ensuring Illinoisans are prepared to fill the jobs of tomorrow through strong workforce partnerships.”
New Advanced Manufacturing & R&D Facility
DMG MORI will establish a new facility within Chicago’s Goose Island industrial corridor, featuring approximately 25,000 square feet of office space and 65,000 square feet of advanced manufacturing operations. The site will serve as the company’s North American R&D headquarters, supporting research, production, and innovation under one roof.
Key initiatives planned for the facility include:
- Creation of a Government Solutions Center supporting specialized projects
- Production of high-speed, high-accuracy optomechanical scanners
- Manufacturing of metal additive components and advanced automation technologies
- Expansion of dual-use and defense-related manufacturing applications
“By co-locating research and production in Chicago, we are accelerating innovation from discovery to deployment,” said James Nudo, Chairman of DMG MORI Federal Services, Inc. “This investment expands our North American R&D capacity while strengthening America’s industrial competitiveness.”
Workforce Development Partnership
A central component of the project is a workforce training collaboration with City Colleges of Chicago, designed to connect students directly with careers in advanced manufacturing.
Through the partnership, DMG MORI will help establish specialized training programs focused on industry-aligned skills and emerging manufacturing technologies, creating a direct talent pipeline for the company’s growing operations.
Illinois operates the nation’s third-largest community college system and continues to expand access to career and technical education programs aligned with employer demand.
“This partnership reinforces City Colleges’ role as a trusted workforce partner for global companies,” said Juan Salgado, Chancellor of City Colleges of Chicago. “Our students will gain hands-on exposure to cutting-edge manufacturing technologies and pathways into high-demand careers.”
Strengthening Illinois’ Manufacturing Ecosystem
Headquartered in Hoffman Estates for its North American operations, DMG MORI joins a growing list of global companies expanding in Illinois, reinforcing the state’s reputation as a destination for advanced manufacturing investment and foreign direct investment.
“DMG MORI’s investment will create quality jobs and establish a cutting-edge R&D facility that supports long-term competitiveness,” said DCEO Director Kristin Richards. “We are proud to support companies investing in talent, technology, and innovation across Illinois.”
The project is supported through DCEO’s Economic Development for a Growing Economy (EDGE) program, with the company committing to invest at least $40.5 million and create a minimum of 74 full-time positions. In 2025 alone, EDGE-supported companies committed more than $2.6 billion in investments statewide.
Illinois EDC President and CEO Christy George noted the broader industry impact, adding that the expansion strengthens additive manufacturing and automation capabilities while expanding access to high-quality careers.
State Senator Lakisha Collins (D-Chicago) also welcomed the investment, emphasizing its role in bringing new economic opportunity and advanced manufacturing growth to local communities.
Building on Illinois’ Economic Growth Strategy
The expansion aligns with Illinois’ Economic Growth Plan, which prioritizes key industries including advanced manufacturing, technology, and innovation-driven sectors. DMG MORI’s investment follows recent commitments from companies such as Silesia, Damera, and Diraq, highlighting continued momentum in corporate expansion across the state.
