Strengthening Louisiana’s Specialty Chemicals Logistics Hub
Project expected to create 22 new jobs and expand industrial warehousing capacity by 300,000 square feet
BATON ROUGE, La. (November 2025) — Katoen Natie Baton Rouge, LLC has broken ground on a $25 million expansion at its Baton Rouge Polymers Terminal, marking a significant investment in Louisiana’s specialty chemicals and advanced materials sector. The project will add a large-scale logistics facility to support regional manufacturing and enhance the Capital Region’s position as a hub for industrial distribution.
The expansion is projected to create 13 direct new jobs and retain 29 existing positions in East Baton Rouge Parish. Louisiana Economic Development estimates an additional nine indirect jobs, bringing the total expected impact to 22 new job opportunities.
“Katoen Natie’s continued investment in Baton Rouge reflects the confidence global companies have in Louisiana’s ability to deliver for the specialty process industries and advanced manufacturing sectors,” said Louisiana Economic Development Secretary Susan B. Bourgeois. “This project strengthens our logistics network, creates high-quality jobs, and reinforces the Capital Region’s growing leadership in the global supply chain.”
Warehouse Expansion to Support Titanium Dioxide Storage and Repackaging
The project includes construction of a 300,000-square-foot facility designed for the storage and repackaging of titanium dioxide (TiO₂) and other industrial materials. Titanium dioxide produced in Lake Charles is widely used in coatings, plastics, and other advanced manufacturing applications.
“With this project, Katoen Natie reconfirms that Baton Rouge is key within its global network of high-end logistics and added-value platforms for the chemical industry,” said Sam Dhollander, President of Specialty Chemicals, Katoen Natie. “Louisiana continues to be a region where chemicals and petrochemicals find a home in an increasingly competitive global economy.”
Construction is expected to be completed by October 2026, with operations set to begin the following month.
Regional Leaders Applaud Long-Term Economic Impact
“This investment by Katoen Natie represents another strong vote of confidence in Baton Rouge and in the Capital Region’s ability to compete and grow,” said East Baton Rouge Parish Mayor-President Sid Edwards. “By expanding their operations here, Katoen Natie is strengthening our manufacturing and logistics sector, creating quality jobs, and contributing to the long-term vitality of our regional economy.”
“This investment underscores the region’s strength in the logistics and manufacturing industries,” said Lori Melancon, President & CEO, Greater Baton Rouge Economic Partnership.
Competitive Incentives Support Workforce and Infrastructure
To secure the project, the state of Louisiana offered a competitive incentives package, including:
-
LED FastStart workforce development solutions
-
$200,000 performance-based infrastructure grant
The project further supports Louisiana’s strategic efforts to expand industrial supply chain capacity across key petrochemical and specialty manufacturing sectors.
