Creating 575 Jobs in Colleton County
WALTERBORO, S.C. — Global energy technology firm Kontrolmatik Technologies, through its subsidiary Pomega Energy Storage Technologies, is establishing a major U.S. manufacturing presence in Colleton County with a $279 million investment to build a 3-gigawatt-hour (GWh) lithium-ion battery factory. The project is expected to create approximately 575 new jobs and strengthen South Carolina’s position in the rapidly growing energy storage sector.
Founded in 2022, Pomega Energy Storage Technologies specializes in the manufacturing and integration of battery energy storage systems (BESS). These systems can be paired with renewable energy installations or deployed as standalone solutions to support grid reliability. BESS technologies help improve grid efficiency, stabilize power supply, reduce electricity costs, and provide backup power during outages.
The new facility will be located at the Colleton Industrial Campus near Walterboro. In addition to producing lithium-ion battery cells, the plant will manufacture battery modules and key components for Pomega’s containerized, grid-scale energy storage solutions. The factory’s full 3 GWh capacity will be dedicated to serving the utility-scale energy storage market.
Operations are slated to begin in 2024. Job seekers interested in careers with Pomega Energy Storage Technologies are encouraged to visit the company’s website for opportunities.
The Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved job development credits in support of the project.
