A $55.2 Million Lafayette Investment to Power Data Center and Semiconductor Growth
BATON ROUGE, La. – Louisiana-based MMR Group, the nation’s largest open-shop electrical contractor, is expanding its footprint with a $55.2 million investment in a new assembly facility in Lafayette Parish. The project will support production of advanced electrical systems used in high-growth markets such as data centers, artificial intelligence, and semiconductor manufacturing, further positioning Acadiana as a hub for cutting-edge industrial innovation.
The expansion is expected to create 196 direct new jobs with an average annual salary of $85,000, while retaining 3,000 existing positions across Louisiana. According to Louisiana Economic Development (LED), the project will also generate 335 indirect jobs, bringing the total impact to more than 530 new job opportunities statewide.
“For more than 30 years, MMR Group has powered Louisiana’s economy, and this expansion proves how vital our homegrown companies are to the state’s success,” said Governor Jeff Landry. “Our administration is committed to ensuring that MMR and all Louisiana businesses continue to benefit from the state’s historic economic momentum.”
MMR has purchased and will renovate an existing facility at 939 West Pont Des Mouton Road in Lafayette, with operations expected to begin in early 2026. The upgraded facility will feature a new modular systems division to produce pre-assembled components critical to data center and AI infrastructure development.
“We’re scaling to meet the growing needs of our clients,” said MMR President and CEO James B. ‘Pepper’ Rutland. “Our ability to integrate engineering, electrical, and instrumentation capabilities under one roof helps us deliver complex projects faster, safer, and more efficiently.”
Founded in 1991 in Baton Rouge, MMR Group has grown from a small electrical services firm into a global leader in engineering, construction, and maintenance across industrial and commercial sectors. The company employs more than 10,000 professionals across 30 offices in North America and supports many of Louisiana’s most advanced projects, including work at Venture Global’s LNG facility in Plaquemines Parish.
The state is supporting the Lafayette expansion with a $500,000 performance-based grant for building renovations, LED FastStart® workforce training, and access to Industrial Tax Exemption and High Impact Jobs programs.
“MMR’s expansion is exactly what the Driving Louisiana Opportunity tour is designed to highlight — companies that invest, hire, and grow right here at home,” said LED Secretary Susan B. Bourgeois.
