Appointment Strengthens Nevada’s International Business Recruitment and Foreign Direct Investment Efforts
Carson City, Nev. (June 4, 2026) — The Governor’s Office of Economic Development (GOED) has appointed Volker J. Huber as Special Envoy to Germany, Austria and Switzerland for the State of Nevada, advancing the state’s efforts to build international business relationships and attract new investment.
In the honorary, non-compensated role, Huber will support Nevada’s international economic development strategy by helping strengthen relationships with business leaders, trade organizations, investors and government stakeholders throughout Germany, Austria and Switzerland. The region is commonly known in international business as the DACH region.
The designation is designed to further Nevada’s strategic goals in several key areas, including:
- Foreign direct investment
- Industry recruitment
- Innovation partnerships
- International business expansion
- Trade and economic development relationships
- European market engagement
“This designation reflects Nevada’s continued commitment to building meaningful international partnerships that create jobs and diversify our economy,” said GOED Executive Director Tom Burns. “Volker will play an important role in helping showcase Nevada’s strengths in innovation, workforce development, infrastructure, and business-friendly policy to companies and organizations throughout Europe.”
Huber Brings International Business Experience to Nevada’s Global Outreach
Huber, a German-American dual citizen, brings more than 20 years of international business and leadership experience to the Special Envoy role.
Two decades ago, the Economic Development Association of Western Nevada helped support the relocation of Huber’s first U.S.-based company to Nevada. The decision was driven by Nevada’s favorable business climate, logistics advantages and long-term growth potential.
Since then, Huber has founded multiple companies in Nevada, including Access2America, an organization that helps European companies gain traction in the U.S. market.
His background also includes:
- Founding and leading multiple Nevada-based companies
- Supporting European companies entering the U.S. market
- Teaching international management at the University of Nevada, Reno
- Mentoring international startups through German Accelerator
- Supporting emerging companies through the NATO DIANA program
Nevada Expands Global Economic Development Strategy
The Special Envoy designation is advisory and strategic in nature. Huber will help support Nevada’s broader international trade, investment and economic development objectives by promoting the state’s competitive advantages to companies and organizations throughout the DACH region.
Through this appointment, GOED aims to increase global awareness of Nevada as a destination for business expansion, innovation, advanced industries and international investment.

Created during the 2011 session of the Nevada Legislature, the Governor’s Office of Economic Development was formed through a collaborative effort between the Nevada Legislature and the Governor’s Office to restructure economic development in the state.
