A $19 Million Investment, Creating 35 New Jobs
MENA, Ark. – Nidec Motor Corporation, a global leader in electric motor manufacturing, announced a $19 million expansion of its existing facility in Mena, Arkansas, reinforcing its long-term commitment to the region and creating 35 new full-time jobs over the next five years.
The 61,000-square-foot expansion will increase Nidec’s manufacturing capacity, enhance testing capabilities, and introduce a new customer demonstration room designed to showcase the company’s large-scale motor technology. The project marks a significant milestone for both Nidec and the Mena community, further cementing Arkansas’s position as a hub for advanced manufacturing and industrial innovation.
“This significant investment in our plant in Mena marks a milestone in our growth as a manufacturer of electric motors,” said Claudemir dos Santos, Nidec Global ACIM COO and Vice President of Operations for North America and Latin America. “We’ve essentially outgrown our facility, and the new space will allow us to expand our manufacturing capabilities, upgrade our testing labs, and enhance the experience for customers who visit the location.”
Supporting Growth and Job Creation in Mena
The Mena expansion will bring the facility’s footprint to over 408,000 square feet, supporting production growth and creating skilled manufacturing jobs in Polk County. Construction began in Q2 2025 and is expected to be completed by Q2 2027.
Currently employing about 400 workers, Nidec’s Mena facility is ISO9001-2016 certified and plays a crucial role in producing the U.S. MOTORS® brand of stock and custom electric motors. These products are widely used in industries such as oil and natural gas, water/wastewater management, and other large-scale industrial applications.
Strong Partnership with Arkansas Leaders
Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders praised Nidec’s continued investment in Arkansas, highlighting it as a sign of confidence in the state’s pro-business climate.
“Nidec has been a part of the Mena community for nearly six decades, and this latest expansion secures their place in the Natural State for years to come,” said Governor Sanders. “From day one, my administration has focused on creating an environment where great businesses like Nidec can thrive. This investment proves that lowering taxes, cutting red tape, and strengthening our workforce is attracting world-class companies to Arkansas.”
Decades of Manufacturing Excellence in Mena
Since first establishing operations in 1966, Nidec has been a cornerstone of the Mena economy, producing high-performance vertical and horizontal motors that help power America’s industrial infrastructure.
“With its latest investment, Nidec is expanding its operations in Mena and growing its workforce,” said Clint O’Neal, Executive Director of the Arkansas Economic Development Commission (AEDC). “This project reflects the strong business environment in Arkansas and the ongoing partnership between Nidec, the City of Mena, and AEDC.”
Community Impact and Local Support
Local officials celebrated the announcement as a major boost for the Mena economy.
“Nidec’s decision to expand in Mena is a big win for our community,” said Mena Mayor Seth Smith. “It shows their trust in the hardworking people of Polk County and their belief in our future. With the support of AEDC, this project will bring great jobs and new opportunities to local families.”
