WOODSTOCK, Ontario (May 20, 2026) — Sunrise Farms is investing $100.5 million to construct a new 155,000-square-foot poultry processing facility in Woodstock, Ontario, a project expected to create 100 new jobs while expanding domestic food processing capacity and strengthening the province’s agri-food supply chain.
The expansion is being supported by Invest Ontario through a grant of up to $4 million from the Invest Ontario Fund, contingent upon final funding agreements. In addition to financial support, Invest Ontario assisted Sunrise Farms with workforce planning initiatives, training program coordination and collaboration among municipal, provincial and federal stakeholders.
The new facility will significantly expand Sunrise Farms’ processing capabilities and reinforce Ontario’s domestic food production network, supporting long-term food security and increased procurement from farms throughout the province.
Once completed, the Woodstock operation will be federally licensed through the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA), enabling broader national distribution of Sunrise Farms’ Sargent Farms halal-certified poultry products. The additional capacity is expected to strengthen supply chain reliability while increasing opportunities for agricultural producers and suppliers across Ontario.
Designed as one of Canada’s most technologically advanced poultry processing facilities, the plant will integrate enhanced food safety systems, environmental technologies and animal welfare processes intended to improve productivity and operational efficiency.
The facility will also incorporate sustainability measures aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions and water consumption, supporting industry efforts to create cleaner and more efficient food production systems.
Ontario continues to attract investment in food and agricultural processing due to its established agricultural network, transportation infrastructure, access to major consumer markets and expanding innovation ecosystem. Those advantages position processors to scale operations while supporting growing demand across retail and food service markets.
“Ontario’s world-class agri-food sector serves as a cornerstone of our economy,” said Vic Fedeli, Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade. “As demand for Ontario-made products continues to grow, Sunrise Farms’ investment will add critical processing capacity while creating opportunities for workers, farmers and suppliers across the province.”
According to Sunrise Farms CEO David Shoore, the Woodstock project represents the largest greenfield investment in the company’s history.
“This project will allow Sunrise to respond to growing demand for Sargent Farms halal-certified products while delivering economic benefits to the region and strengthening Ontario’s food system,” Shoore said.
Khawar Nasim said the project demonstrates the continued strength of Ontario’s food processing industry and the importance of coordinated investment support.
Founded in 1983, Sunrise Farms has grown from a single poultry processing facility in British Columbia into a national protein producer with operations across Canada. The company works with Canadian poultry producers and supplies products to retail and food service customers throughout the country.
