PRINCETON, Ind. (Mar. 24, 2026) — Toyota Motor North America will invest $200 million at its manufacturing facility in Princeton to expand production capacity for the Toyota Grand Highlander, reinforcing the company’s long-term commitment to Southwest Indiana and strengthening the region’s role in North America’s automotive manufacturing network.
The investment will increase assembly capacity for the Grand Highlander at Toyota Indiana’s East Plant, where the model will be produced alongside the Sienna, while continuing production of the Lexus TX in the West Plant. The announcement coincides with the facility’s 30th anniversary and follows a milestone year in 2025 that included the plant’s 8 millionth vehicle produced and Toyota’s 1 millionth hybrid assembled at the site.
Company leadership emphasized that the expansion reflects sustained consumer demand and confidence in the plant’s workforce. The Princeton facility employs approximately 7,300 team members and remains one of the region’s largest and most influential manufacturing employers.
Situated on a 1,160-acre campus encompassing 4.5 million square feet, Toyota Indiana performs stamping, body weld, paint and final assembly operations. The facility currently manufactures the Grand Highlander, Highlander, Highlander Hybrid, Lexus TX and Sienna Hybrid. In 2025 alone, the plant produced more than 427,000 vehicles.
Toyota’s cumulative investment in the Princeton operation now exceeds $8 billion, with the company also contributing more than $55 million to community initiatives across Southwest Indiana. Regional economic development leaders noted the expansion will generate positive economic ripple effects, reinforcing workforce retention, supply chain growth and long-term industrial competitiveness.
Officials said continued reinvestment by major manufacturers like Toyota strengthens Southwest Indiana’s position as a premier destination for advanced automotive production while supporting high-quality career opportunities for current and future generations of workers.
