Project to create 50 new jobs and expand Virginia’s role as a global data hub
Richmond, VA — Governor Glenn Youngkin announced that Vantage Data Centers will invest $2 billion to build a new, state-of-the-art data center campus in Stafford County, Virginia, further strengthening the Commonwealth’s position as a global leader in digital infrastructure and cloud technology.
At full capacity, the new campus — known as VA4 — will include three hyperscale data centers across 82 acres, totaling approximately 929,000 square feet. The project is expected to create 50 new high-skill jobs in the region and increase Vantage’s statewide data capacity to 782 megawatts (MW), representing a total investment of nearly $8 billion in Virginia since 2017.
Sustainable Design for the AI Era
Designed with sustainability at its core, the VA4 campus will pursue LEED Silver certification and incorporate Vantage’s “sustainable by design” principles. The site will utilize a closed-loop chilled water cooling system, reducing water consumption and optimizing energy efficiency. The facility will also feature liquid-to-liquid cooling with advanced CDU-based technology capable of supporting 100% of IT workloads — essential for next-generation artificial intelligence and data applications.
The first building is scheduled to open in late 2027, positioning the campus as one of the most advanced digital infrastructure sites in the Mid-Atlantic region.
Virginia at the Center of Digital Growth
“Thanks to companies like Vantage, Virginia is leading the world into a future powered by the limitless possibilities of artificial intelligence,” said Governor Glenn Youngkin. “With this $2 billion investment, Vantage is paving the way for a stronger Stafford County and a stronger Virginia. This project reflects our commitment to innovation, job creation, and economic growth — and it’s another example of how Virginia is winning for families and businesses alike.”
Secretary of Commerce and Trade Juan Pablo Segura added, “As AI promises to transform the way we live and work, developments like Vantage’s VA4 campus place Virginia at the center of it all. By moving at the speed of business, we’re ensuring that these centers begin serving communities and generating economic value for years to come.”
A Strategic Expansion for Vantage
The new Stafford County site is strategically located just over an hour from Vantage’s three existing Northern Virginia campuses.
“Fredericksburg offered a significant opportunity for Vantage to serve our customers seeking capacity and access to the resources of Data Center Alley,” said Dana Adams, President of Vantage Data Centers North America. “The region’s proximity to major metros, access to robust infrastructure, and growing technology ecosystem make it an ideal location to meet skyrocketing demand. Virginia has been a cornerstone of Vantage’s North American growth since we first entered the market in 2017, and we’re pleased to expand our presence to Fredericksburg—helping establish it as a meaningful digital hub while contributing to the region’s economic growth and technological advancements.”
