Cutting-edge cold spray technology will support B-52 mission readiness and create 46 new job opportunities in North Louisiana
BOSSIER CITY, La. – VRC Metal Systems announced it will invest $1.56 million to establish a state-of-the-art maintenance facility at Barksdale Air Force Base, bringing advanced repair technology to support B-52 bombers and ground equipment. The project will create 21 direct new jobs with an average annual salary of $80,000—156% above the Bossier Parish average—and is expected to generate an additional 25 indirect jobs, for a total of 46 new opportunities in the Northwest Region.
“VRC Metal Systems highlights the growing role of companies using innovative approaches to expand Louisiana’s defense and aviation sector,” said Louisiana Economic Development Secretary Susan B. Bourgeois. “Under our 9×90 plan, we are prioritizing projects that strengthen our manufacturing base, deliver high-wage engineering and technical jobs, and create opportunities for residents across the state. This latest investment further cements North Louisiana’s position as a hub for innovation.”
The new facility, called the Additive Manufacturing Rapid Maintenance Facility, will deploy VRC’s proprietary cold spray technology—a process that propels microscopic metal particles at supersonic speeds to repair parts without the need for melting. This cost-effective, durable method provides faster repairs and enhanced readiness for Air Force Global Strike Command.
“This milestone strengthens our long-standing relationship with Air Force Global Strike Command,” said VRC Metal Systems CEO and Co-Founder Rob Hrabe. “We are excited to support the warfighter and 2nd Bomb Wing mission here in Louisiana, where the nexus of military opportunity, commercial potential, and a business-friendly climate makes Bossier City an ideal location.”
Cold spray technology has already improved supply chain resilience at other Air Force Global Strike Command bases, but this will be the first time VRC applies the process directly to B-52 aircraft maintenance—supporting both the 2nd Bomb Wing and its mission partner, the 307th Bomb Wing, the largest of its kind in the world.
“Through the efforts of BRF and our partners, North Louisiana continues to attract innovative companies that strengthen our regional defense cluster,” said Dr. John F. George Jr., President and CEO of BRF (Building Our Region’s Future). “VRC Metal Systems brings critical technology that will directly enhance mission readiness and national security.”
The facility is expected to be operational later this month. VRC will also train airmen in cold spray applications, ensuring expanded capabilities for missions at home and abroad. The company will participate in Louisiana’s Quality Jobs program.
Local leaders welcomed the investment:
Bossier City Mayor Thomas H. Chandler: “We are proud to welcome VRC Metal Systems to our community. Your company’s success is our success, and we look forward to a long and productive partnership.”
North Louisiana Economic Partnership President and CEO Justyn Dixon: “BAFB is one of our region’s greatest assets. Projects like this demonstrate the potential to leverage that strength to attract innovation and create jobs.”
