Collaboration Strengthens Vehicle Imports, Processing and Distribution While Enhancing Supply Chain Efficiency Across the Gulf and Midwest
FREEPORT, Texas (July 9, 2026) — AMPORTS, Mitsubishi Motors North America (MMNA) and Port Freeport have announced a strategic collaboration that expands automotive logistics capabilities along the Texas Gulf Coast, reinforcing Port Freeport’s position as one of the nation’s premier gateways for vehicle imports, exports and distribution.
The partnership supports Mitsubishi Motors’ continued expansion of its U.S. distribution network while leveraging AMPORTS’ integrated port operations and Port Freeport’s strategic location to improve delivery speed, supply chain flexibility and long-term operational efficiency.
Building a More Efficient Automotive Supply Chain
As part of Mitsubishi Motors’ Momentum 2030 business strategy, Port Freeport becomes an important addition to the company’s national distribution network, providing enhanced access to dealerships throughout the Gulf Coast and Midwest.
A long-time AMPORTS customer since 1983, Mitsubishi Motors already operates through facilities in Baltimore and Jacksonville. The addition of Port Freeport creates another strategically located gateway capable of reducing inland transportation distances while improving vehicle delivery timelines.

Integrated Operations from Ship to Dealer
The collaboration combines marine terminal operations, vehicle processing and logistics services into a streamlined workflow.
Once vessels arrive at Port Freeport:
- AMPORTS stevedoring teams unload incoming vehicles.
- Vehicles move directly into on-site processing facilities.
- Accessorization and final vehicle preparation are completed at the port.
- Finished vehicles are distributed to Mitsubishi dealer partners throughout key U.S. markets.
This integrated process reduces operational complexity while improving coordination across every stage of the automotive supply chain.
Supporting Mitsubishi Motors’ Growth Strategy
According to Ken Konieczka, Senior Vice President of Sales Operations for Mitsubishi Motors North America, the partnership directly supports the company’s long-term business objectives.
“As we continue to focus our efforts on delivering Momentum 2030, our mid-term business plan, the addition of Port Freeport to our U.S. distribution system will be key to improving efficiency, reducing waste and speeding up deliveries to our dealer partners throughout the Gulf and the Midwest.”
Konieczka added that the collaboration provides a strategically located port with coordinated logistics services that will strengthen Mitsubishi’s distribution network for years to come.
Collaboration Drives Logistics Innovation
AMPORTS CEO Vee Kachroo said the partnership demonstrates how integrated logistics solutions create measurable improvements across the automotive supply chain.
“Working alongside Mitsubishi Motors North America and Port Freeport, this initiative reflects how collaboration can improve the flow of vehicles and strengthen the overall supply chain.”
Port Freeport Commission Chairman Rob Giesecke noted that the partnership further establishes the port as a leading automotive gateway on the Gulf Coast.
“Port Freeport is proud to be selected as Mitsubishi Motors’ preferred Gulf Coast port. Working alongside AMPORTS to facilitate these operations strengthens supply chain connectivity, supports economic growth and further positions Port Freeport as a leading gateway for vehicle imports and exports.”
Automotive Operations Already Underway
Mitsubishi Motors officially began operations at Port Freeport on April 28, 2026, receiving more than 500 vehicles during its first month of activity.
The collaboration was formally celebrated during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on July 1, attended by executives from Mitsubishi Motors North America, AMPORTS and Port Freeport.
The event also marked the inaugural arrival of the Höegh Sunrise, one of Höegh Autoliners’ next-generation Aurora Class vehicle carriers, which delivered Mitsubishi vehicles to Freeport.
Designed with advanced environmental technologies, the Höegh Sunrise represents the shipping industry’s continued investment in more sustainable maritime transportation and lower-emission automotive logistics.
