SkyLab Project to Add 175 Jobs and Strengthen Virginia’s Defense Innovation Ecosystem
FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. — Blue Sky Innovators, Inc. will invest $7 million to expand operations in Fairfax County, creating 175 new jobs and launching a next-generation secure innovation center designed to accelerate defense technology development and mission readiness.
The expansion includes approximately 20,000 square feet of new secure laboratory and innovation space above the company’s existing Reston office at 12120 Sunset Hills Road. The new facility, branded SkyLab, will serve as a collaborative environment focused on advanced research, rapid prototyping and mission integration.
SkyLab to Accelerate Emerging Defense Technologies
According to company leaders, SkyLab will function as a mission-focused innovation hub where government customers, commercial technology firms and startup partners can work together in a secure setting.
The center will support development across several high-growth sectors, including:

- Emerging defense technologies

Virginia Incentives Help Secure Expansion
Virginia Economic Development Partnership worked with the Fairfax County Economic Development Authority to secure the project.
Abigail Spanberger approved an $840,000 grant from the Commonwealth’s Opportunity Fund to support the expansion. Additional workforce training assistance will be provided through the Virginia Jobs Investment Program.
