Alabama grant will support infrastructure improvements for new manufacturing facility in Tuskegee Commerce Park
TUSKEGEE, Ala. (May 27, 2026) — Alabama Governor Kay Ivey awarded a $400,000 Community Development Block Grant to the City of Tuskegee to support infrastructure development for a new $163 million automotive supplier manufacturing facility expected to create 187 jobs in Macon County.
The project will support the development of a new plant by CPT America, a tier one automotive supplier that will manufacture stamped metal components and assemblies for automotive manufacturers. The facility will be located in Tuskegee Commerce Park, near the Samkee auto parts production plant that opened in 2024.
“This is another big step forward for Tuskegee and Macon County in establishing a strong presence in the automotive industry,” said Governor Kay Ivey. “This development will offer good-paying jobs for people of all skill levels in the industry. I am pleased to support this project and excited for the positive impact CPT America will have on the area.”
Infrastructure Grant Supports Automotive Manufacturing Growth
The City of Tuskegee will use the grant funds to extend water and sewer infrastructure to support the new CPT America plant. The initial phase of the project includes construction of a 350,000-square-foot manufacturing facility.
A potential second phase could add an additional 700,000 square feet, further expanding the site’s long-term manufacturing capacity.
Project highlights include:
- $163 million capital investment
- 187 new jobs
- 350,000-square-foot initial facility
- Potential 700,000-square-foot second phase
- New water and sewer infrastructure
- Location in Tuskegee Commerce Park
- Growth in Alabama’s automotive supplier network
The grant is being administered by the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs through funds made available by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.
Tuskegee Strengthens Position in Alabama’s Automotive Supply Chain
The CPT America project builds on recent automotive industry momentum in Tuskegee and Macon County. With Samkee’s auto parts production plant already operating nearby, the new CPT America facility will further strengthen Tuskegee Commerce Park as a growing hub for automotive suppliers.
The project also supports Alabama’s broader economic development strategy of attracting advanced manufacturing and automotive supply chain investment to communities across the state.
“A development like this brings multiple benefits for a community, including higher wage jobs, an expanded tax base and more demand for retail and other businesses in the area,” said ADECA Director Kenneth Boswell. “ADECA is pleased to partner with Governor Ivey and the City of Tuskegee in support of this project.”
Governor Ivey notified Tuskegee Mayor Chris Lee that the grant had been approved. The City of Tuskegee will contribute $263,466 toward the infrastructure project.
Automotive Investment Drives Opportunity in Macon County
The investment from CPT America is expected to create new employment opportunities for workers across a range of skill levels while helping expand the region’s industrial base.
By supporting site infrastructure, the state and local partners are positioning Tuskegee to attract additional manufacturing activity and build on the region’s growing role in Alabama’s automotive sector.
ADECA manages a range of programs that support economic development, law enforcement, recreation, energy conservation and water resource management across Alabama.
