TORONTO, Ontario (May 5, 2026) – Global biopharmaceutical leader Sanofi is expanding its Artificial Intelligence (AI) Centre of Excellence in Toronto with a $294 million investment, reinforcing Ontario’s position as a leading hub for AI and life sciences innovation.
The expansion is expected to create 50 new high-skilled roles focused on artificial intelligence and machine learning, building on more than 150 digital and technology positions established since 2022. These roles span cloud computing, data engineering, software development, bioinformatics and pharmaceutical data science, supporting Sanofi’s global research, manufacturing and business operations.
Toronto was selected following a global evaluation process, driven by Ontario’s deep AI talent pool, advanced digital infrastructure and strong life sciences ecosystem. Since launching its AI Centre of Excellence in 2022, Sanofi has continued to scale its Toronto-based team, embedding AI capabilities across its global operations.
The latest investment further elevates Ontario’s role within Sanofi’s global strategy, with new mandates and leadership responsibilities being anchored in the province.
Invest Ontario is supporting the project with a conditional grant of up to $5 million through the Invest Ontario Fund, while also providing strategic business intelligence and site selection support.
Ontario’s Minister of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade, Vic Fedeli, said the investment underscores the province’s competitive advantages in both AI and life sciences.
“Sanofi’s investment highlights Ontario’s global leadership in innovation and our ability to attract and grow advanced industries,” Fedeli said. “This expansion will create high-quality jobs while supporting the development of essential medicines and vaccines for markets around the world.”
Dimitrije Jankovic, Sanofi’s Global Head of Digital Strategy and Operations, said the expansion reflects the company’s long-term commitment to Toronto’s growing AI ecosystem.
“As an AI-powered, R&D-driven biopharma company, we are focused on accelerating the delivery of life-changing medicines,” Jankovic said. “Toronto continues to play a critical role in that mission, and we value our partnership with the Province of Ontario in advancing innovation.”
Khawar Nasim, CEO of Invest Ontario, added that the project reinforces the province’s ability to support enterprise-scale innovation.
“Ontario offers a unique combination of world-class AI talent, advanced infrastructure and deep life sciences expertise,” Nasim said. “We are proud to support Sanofi as it expands its global AI leadership in Toronto and creates high-skilled jobs that strengthen the province’s innovation economy.”
