COLUMBIA, S.C. — South Carolina’s export sales climbed to $38.5 billion in 2025, a 1.5% increase year over yearand the state’s highest export total in seven years, according to data released by the U.S. Department of Commerce.
Governor Henry McMaster, the South Carolina Department of Commerce (S.C. Commerce) and South Carolina Ports (SC Ports) announced the milestone, highlighting the continued global demand for South Carolina-manufactured products and the strength of the state’s advanced manufacturing economy.
Manufacturing Drives Export Momentum
South Carolina once again led the nation in two major export categories:
- #1 in completed passenger vehicle exports
- #1 in tire exports (for the 11th consecutive year)
The state also ranked second nationally in ball and roller bearing exports, key components used in automotive, aerospace, industrial machinery, and energy applications.
Motor vehicles and parts generated the largest share of export revenue in 2025, totaling $11.8 billion, while aircraft and parts exports increased their market share by 31% over 2024, reflecting strong growth in the aerospace sector.

Global Reach Expands
South Carolina exported goods to 198 countries and territories across Asia, Europe, North America, and the Middle East.
Key international highlights include:
- Germany remained the state’s top export partner, accounting for $5.1 billion in sales (up 3.5% year over year).
- Mexico and Canada followed as leading trade partners.
- Aircraft exports to Qatar and Taiwan surged, pushing both nations into the state’s top 10 export markets.
South Carolina captured 18% of the total U.S. market share for completed passenger vehicle exports, totaling $9.8 billion, and held 43% of the U.S. tire export market, generating $2 billion in sales — a 7% annual increase.
Port Infrastructure Fuels Competitive Advantage
SC Ports continues to serve as a strategic gateway for the state’s exporters. More than 70% of cargo exported through South Carolina Ports facilities originates from South Carolina-based companies, the highest percentage among major East Coast container ports.
