Oxford, AL — Wellborn Cabinet, a leading American cabinetry manufacturer, has officially opened its new $28 million manufacturing facility in Calhoun County, marking a major milestone for Alabama’s growing manufacturing and homebuilding industries.
The 250,000-square-foot First Haven Cabinetry plant, located on 60 acres in the Oxford West Industrial Park, began operations in August and currently employs 85 people. Once fully operational, the facility is expected to create over 400 new jobs and produce approximately 2,000 cabinets per day, bolstering economic growth across Calhoun County and surrounding communities.
“This is a big day for Oxford,” said Mayor Alton Craft. “This is something I have wanted for a long, long time.”
Supporting U.S. Manufacturing
During the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Wellborn Cabinet CEO Johnny Simpson emphasized the company’s commitment to American manufacturing, noting that recent federal trade actions will strengthen the domestic cabinet industry.
“We commend this bold and necessary action, which will help ensure that this facility and others like it across the nation reach their full potential,” Simpson said, referencing the Trump administration’s new tariffs on imported kitchen cabinets and vanities designed to protect national interests and support U.S. producers.
The Ashland, Alabama-based company first announced plans for the Oxford expansion in 2022, reinforcing its long-term commitment to investing in local communities and creating high-quality American jobs.

A Legacy of Craftsmanship and Growth
Paul Wellborn, president and chairman of the board, reflected on the company’s humble beginnings and steady growth.
“What makes the struggles a lot easier is having good people around you,” Wellborn said. “I thank God for the people who have made this company what it is. It all comes from Him.
The new First Haven Cabinetry line offers laminated, value-driven cabinetry tailored for entry-level remodeling and new-construction markets, particularly for kitchens and bathrooms — a strategic move aimed at meeting rising demand for affordable, high-quality cabinetry solutions.
Community Collaboration and Economic Impact
Calhoun County Economic Development Council (EDC) Executive Director Don Hopper credited collaboration and proactive engagement as key factors in securing the project.
“The company was being heavily recruited while searching for a new location, but through strong partnerships and proactive engagement, we were able to showcase why this area was the right choice,” Hopper said.
Larry Deason, chairman of the Calhoun County EDC, added that Wellborn’s investment reflects the region’s shared vision for sustainable economic development.
“Their commitment to sustainability and community values aligns perfectly with the vision we have for this area,” Deason said.
The Oxford facility represents Wellborn Cabinet’s continued growth as one of Alabama’s manufacturing success stories — expanding opportunities, strengthening supply chains, and helping shape the next chapter of American-made craftsmanship.
